Placemaking in the Periphery: Leveraging Liminoid Spaces for Host Promotions and Experience Creation at the Japan 2019 Rugby World Cup

This research explores the concept of placemaking in context sports events tourism, using case study 2019 Rugby World Cup hosted Japan. The investigates how host cities used liminoid spaces between transport hubs and stadiums to create a festive atmosphere articulate identity place itself. Employing novel ethnographic methodology centred around walking participatory methods, researcher occupied dual tourist-researcher role, immersing himself space. Findings suggest that use such was innovative successful creating sense developing through which visitors moved. However, acknowledges these strategies may not be applicable all direct experiences methods do allow for empirical claims about success or their longitudinal effects.
